I dont understand why Dalton was so villainized in this short. He didn’t do anything wrong! I also find hand-drawn greeting cards to be a very wholesome business venture.

This film is beyond amazing. When younger I’d let my imagination and creativity flow, but now as an adult I have lost my dream of being an artist due to only trying to survive and pay my bills. Money is the root of all evil and some will never live the life they were born to do so.😢

This spoke to me on every level. 25 years of developing my craft and it still remains in the “hobby” category despite my best efforts, but I’ll never stop. Art is made for the artist themselves if nothing else.

The animation is beyond fantastic, and a lot has been said already here on the comments section, so I have nothing to add really... except... I was expecting someone else to find the main character a rendered puppet version of Angelina Jolie! Am I the only one to see the resemblance?

Very nice, but the dreams that the powers that be exploits only hurts itself anyways. I wouldn’t feel bad for abandoning them. The universe itself won’t promote their growth so everything around it becomes cheap.

Although this is a magnificent piece of art, I don't understand why all the creatures in it have to be so ugly 😢. When i read the title Butterflies I was hoping for something beautiful, and the whole ideea of thr film is beautiful,, but the faces... I don't understand why.

Artists survive by commodifying their art through this beautifully metaphorical industrial assembly line to feed consumers that ultimately don’t care about art. Eventually the process dulls the artist, even hollows them out, until there is nothing left to inspire them, and all that remains is the commodity. This story has a positive ending, but the real world is much darker. Sure you could have some dream that reignites the spark, but what happens after you walk out that door into the light? Realistically you just go find another “assembly line”, which would be bad enough, only now you also have to contend with fewer and fewer “assembly line” jobs being available as AI and automation pushes you towards obsolescence.
